About Me:
The sole artist behind Animated Earth is me, Paige Becker. Hi.
I’m originally from Pennsylvania, but have been in/around Portland, Oregon for almost a decade now, with no plans on leaving. Art was always my favorite subject, and I’ve always strongly related to being “creative.” The only high school class in which I didn’t think about food was my 3D art class, which ironically, was right before lunch.
Alas, I chose a more “practical” route in college and majored in Nutrition (clearly, I was always thinking about food…). I became a Registered Dietitian*, and still work in that field today. Although I enjoy helping others through my dietetics work, a few years into my career, I sensed something was missing. I signed up for a ceramics class, and while I couldn’t get into wheelthrowing, my mind was aglow with possibilities. The more I learned about pottery, the more I loved it and had to learn more.
Two years ago I was able to shift my nutrition work to private practice, which allowed for a more flexible schedule and more time for ceramics. Wahoo!
I have a funky, earthy, glaze-rich style of pottery. I’m not terribly into symmetry, and I enjoy organic forms - thus my pottery is entirely handbuilt (not wheelthrown). I love using texture and color in surprising ways. My pieces are meant to stimulate the senses, to come alive and to hopefully inspire YOU to come alive. - thus - Animated Earth.
(fyi: clay is literally just dirt, ie: the earth)
Help me support doing what I love and check out my Shop :)
Thanks for visiting!
yes, I made that necklace out of clay
*Because of stereotypes about dietitians, I feel I must mention: I am an anti-diet, fat positive dietitian. I help people improve their relationships with food and body. I often work with clients with eating disorders. I do not restrict any foods., nor do I encourage my clients restrict food unless medically required.. I love food. Please don't ask me about a diet or weight loss :)
